Can I have laser eye surgery if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

At Vista Eyes, we are often asked this question by our female patients.

If you are pregnant, laser eye surgery is not recommended.  As a general rule, eye surgeons will not perform surgery or give medications to pregnant patients, if at all possible.

If you are breastfeeding, Dr Wolfe will assess your individual situation on a case by case basis.

Considering laser eye surgery before pregnancy?

If you are planning to start a family but are not pregnant, it may be a convenient time for you to consider laser eye surgery.  This way, you can achieve clear vision before beginning your pregnancy journey.

After pregnancy, when the baby arrives, many female patients want to be free from the restrictions and inconvenience of wearing  glasses and contact lenses.  Searching for glasses in the middle of the night or finding the time to hygienically clean contact lenses is tiresome when you trying to juggle the challenges of parenthood – and therefore simplifying your life as much as possible is a good idea.
