Hyperopia

LONG-SIGHTEDNESS

What is Hyperopia (Long-Sightedness)

Hyperopia (Long-sightedness) occurs when the eyeball is shorter than normal or the focussing elements are optically too weak for the length of the eye.  Long-sighted people often have difficulty focussing on objects up close (e.g. reading, computers) but see distance objects more clearly.  However, for those with large amounts of long-sightedness the distance vision can be blurry too.

Sometimes people confuse long-sightedness with presbyopia, which also causes near vision problems, but for different reasons.
