Laser Eye Surgery

What is READ?

READ is a groundbreaking laser vision correction method designed for those who wear multifocal glasses, offering freedom from both distance and near-vision glasses.

READ is a little like monovision.  The dominant eye is treated for distance, however the treatment for the other eye (the reading eye) differs.

The cornea’s curvature is modified to be multifocal over a range. This means the point at which the patient reads is more flexible, making distance vision better than monovision in most cases.

The remarkable outcome is achieved by the ability of the Alcon Wavelight laser to create subtle changes in the curvature required of the cornea.

After years of development at the Rothschild Institute in Paris, Vista Eyes is proud to be the only clinic in Australia to offer this advanced treatment—and we’re thrilled with the early results!

Learn more about READ

READ is typically recommended for patients aged 45 years and over, who are tired of wearing reading glasses.

During the READ procedure, your eye surgeon adjusts one eye for long-distance vision, and the other eye cornea’s curvature is modified to be multifocal over a range – depending on your individual needs.

READ can be achieved in combination with any of the following eye surgery procedures:

Our optometrists can help you trial READ by fitting you with contact lenses to mimic the results of READ. By trialling it first, you will see if READ is right for you.

The risks are rare and often only minor if they occur. Laser eye surgery is a very safe procedure, but like all surgical or medical procedures there is always a risk of complication. All known complications will be discussed at your consultation.
